G-Doctor: An Application Using LLM to Provide Explanations of Smartphone Functions for Older Adults
G-Doctor is a smartphone application leveraging a Large Language Model (LLM) to improve older adults' smartphone skills. G-Doctor differs from previous approaches modifying applications for better usability among older adults or use rule-based chatbots to interact well with older adult smartphone users. Instead, it uses a fine-tuned LLM with prompt engineering to directly enhance older adults' smartphone skills. When they inquire about specific smartphone functionalities using voice commands, the application transcribes these queries into text and then communicates with the GPT model through an API to obtain responses. Through this process, users are allowed to receive explanations of smartphone functionalities. This paper provides an overview of G-Doctor, demonstrates its functionality and evaluates its effectiveness in improving digital literacy in older adults.
